Gone were the tedious mini-games, that quickly wore out their novelty, and PokePuffs were replaced with PokeBeans, a foodstuff that is commonly found in various areas of the region, namely Pokemon Centers and Poke Pelago. Additionally, it added an optional feature after battle to care for your Pokemon, which only adds to the immersion of truly befriending your Pokemon. You could cure them of status ailments outside of battles, clean and groom them, as well as pet and play with them. All of this immersed me in the idea that the Pokemon games have always been built on: that your Pokemon are not just weapons or adventure tools, but partners and friends that you care for, and in exchange they look out for their by comparison weak, yet utterly devoted partner and trainer.
