A nivel general debemos seguir unos simples pasos para lograr confeccionar distintas formas o dibujos y transferir a la tela con facilidad. Para esto utilizaremos una prenda que queramos decorar como un bolso, vestido o mantel de mesa; en nuestro caso haremos el ejemplo con un delantal de cocina. La flixelina es un papel que tiene adhesivo en ambas caras que se usan sobre todo para reforzar el dobladillo o hacer apliques en la costura. Al transferir a la flixelina debemos de ser cuidadosos porque el dibujo para Patchwork lo debemos colocar al contrario, simulando el reflejo de un espejo para que al adherir quede por su lado derecho. Ya que terminamos esta parte, vamos a comenzar a trabajar con las telas que seleccionamos y para ello la vamos a colocar sobre una superficie lisa en donde podremos posicionar la flixelina para adherirla a la tela utilizando una plancha caliente sin vapor por el lado contrario de la tela. Una vez que terminamos de cortar todas nuestras piezas que conforman el dibujo Patchwork pasamos a retirar el papel, cuadrar sobre el delantal y pegar utilizando nuevamente la plancha caliente sin vapor por unos minutos.
