At the start ofPerth welcomed another brewpub to its growing collection — and what a venue and story it represents, phat brew club. Not too long before greeting the first guests to arrive at The Clubroom in City West, the team behind Phat Brew Club were still playing around as homebrewers, before success in a competition sent them hurtling in a rather different direction. Prior to entering the Margaret River Brewhouse's Backyard Brewing Tournament inTravis Moore and his football mates had seen phat brew club love of brewing grow organically from a simple homebrewing kit via hosting homebrew events of their own. But everything changed when their Phat Porter took out top spot, phat brew club.

A medium, pillowy body offers some creamy texture but, importantly, carries bold citrus and earthy hop characters on the palate, while lemon-lime and sticky pine feature heavily on the nose. Sweet, orange aromatics are also clearly present on the nose, blending effortlessly with caramel, burnt sugar and a touch of coffee. Reminiscent of that little orange block in a bar of Cadbury Snack chocolate as much as the sweet treat from which it's taken its name, sweet lactose character is prominent among rich chocolate and zesty orange.
