Regarding the PDI short shifter, we are very pleased with the result with function, but have realised one area of the design that could be improved. The shifter works by raising the upper pivot fulcrum point to change the throw of the shifter significantly. This required a reducing in the ball diameter and we were able to change from the H gearbox box bushing to the smaller R bushing, which itself gave design challenges and a thinner wall thickness over the upper section of the inner sleeve. The pins located in the side of the upper section are designed to stop the stick from rotating so the greater the bend in the stick and aggressiveness of the shifts , the more side load is placed on the pins. For a few customers a pin as sheared off and has resulted in a sloppy stick and for a couple people the pins have made it past the bushing into the gearbox. NOTE: When removing the sticker where you may suspect the pins to be broken, we suggest keeping the stick in place while rotating and lifting the outer sleeve to disengage.

The result is a much more defined engagement of gears. The shifter feels really normal and when getting back into any other manual cruiser the gear lever travel seems excessive. With such a reduction in movement the force required to move has gone up and you can no longer look out of the corner of your eye to see which gear you are in. Three different models are to cover the range of cruisers fitted with the H15X box and have different shapes for the upper part of the gearstick. The upper black section is rubber mounted to the bottom and we have used the same larger diameter black section. Installation is simple and is done by getting access to the top of the gearbox. With rubber boots pulled up the old gearstick can be removed by pushing down and rotating the key slot retainer. The new gearstick is a replacement of this so the upper plate remains in place. To reduce the throw, the ratio has been altered by raising the upper pivot point. The original gearstick can be easily reinstalled if you plan to sell your cruiser. The plastic bushings, if needed to be replaced are part number for the lower white plastic bushing and for the upper ball pivot bush. The lower bushing is standard for all Toyota manual gearboxes.

Depends where you put the pivot , if 10 inches only moves 1 inch in the actual gear selector then raising the pivot an inch might shorten the throw at the knob by 3 inches.
