I've been playing ONI for about two weeks, and the biggest limiting factor for me has been temperature management. Realizing the game was in development for a while and many YouTube videos were made during that time, is there a recommended guide--either YT vid or webpage--for temperature management? There are just so many ways to manage temperatures and so many different priorities you might have. How advanced or basic are you right now? Is this about preventing heat death on an easy gamestart with lots of wiggle room terra - arboria or just figuring out how to get by on a difficult gamestart volcanea - oasis?

Your Duplicants , your plants and your items will suffer and break if their temperature is too high or too low. The environment can get warmer through items that produce heat, creeps through walls and resources, even your Duplicants produce and spread some heat by mere existence. Similarly Chilliness can spread by air exchange or heat spreading towards colder regions. Controlling the environment is one of the key challenges in this game. Formally, Heat is the amount of energy transferred to equalise thermal energy of two bodies. The game uses DTU per second to display heat output, it is equivalent to Joule per second or w att. Although it should not be confused with electric watt, since the game has no friction heat or electric heating in the general sense. Conservation of heat energy tend to vary depending on specific buildings. This problem is the easiest to handle. Many game items, your Duplicants, and certain special features of your colony environment produce heat. In early game, it's better to move the heat to where it won't cause trouble than to try to truly destroy it.

Heat transfer is an important mechanic in the game, but one that is not well understood by most players. Every object in contact with another object of a different temperature will either transfer some heat to it or accept some of its heat. Amount of heat transferred depends on temperature difference between the objects, heat conductivity of materials that make up the objects in contact, but also heat capacity of both objects, and thickness of the more isolated object. Heat transfer is multiplied by the minimum of thermal conductivities of both objects except for non-insulated pipes and buildings. That is, Liquid Chlorine traveling through a Granite Insulated Liquid Pipe will not transfer heat with the pipe much faster than if the pipe was made of Igneous Rock , as conductivity of Liquid Chlorine is well below that of Granite. For more detailed formula see Thermal Conductivity.

Temperature Management plays a huge role in every aspect of Oxygen Not Included. Whether it is the plants or the duplicants , all of them depends on the temperature being perfect for them. A little too cold or too hot temperature shift can cost you your plants, items, and duplicants. Your duplicants, items, resources, and the biome itself — everything plays its part in affecting the temperature of the environment.

As a tip - You can start an ice world, with a frozen core no magma. I can just about wrap my head around how to handle the gasses, but temperature? Outhouse Lavatory. Hydrogen has good SHC, but mostly exist as a low-mass gas which limits its throughput. ONI Rhytemper HotPuls Installation with switching unit and temperature control circuit distribution cabinet on a die casting machine. Recommended Posts. ONI Rhytemper control unit in practical operation, with visualization on a die casting machine. Can allways place aquatuner into sea of melted water and lock biome away with insulation. Oxygen Not Included Wiki. The unit costs of die-cast and injection-moulded articles are essentially determined by the mould temperature control! Thermal Conductivity, counterintuitively, is the least important parameter, it has to be higher than other recipients to collect heat, but only as much, since the system will be inevitably bottlenecked by the material with the lowest Thermal Conductivity. But there is plenty of the stuff around to mine.

Almost every asteroid has a cool area - circulate heat to there. Won't I run out of cold biome after a while? Originally posted by gimmethegepgun :. If the best results are to be achieved for the entire production batch, intelligent temperature control management is required to ensure that a thermal fingerprint of the molded part is recorded and continuously monitored during the manufacturing process. Many calculations also talk about "total heat" or "heat energy". I found success mining out a small cold biome, installing an insulated room inside to do metal refining, and dumping the hot waste water out for the biome to soak up. However, the extra-hot output materials still need to be cooled down themselves. Your Duplicants , your plants and your items will suffer and break if their temperature is too high or too low. Both of them are easy to find in DLC but not guarantee in base game. Hydrogen has good SHC, but mostly exist as a low-mass gas which limits its throughput.
