Okoye was presumably born in Wakanda, and later became the leader of the Dora Milaje, a group of warriors who protected the king and queen. She would later marry W'Kabi, the head of security, and have children with him. The two saved the hostages while T'Challa, donning the panther habit, distracted the mercenaries. She ended up confronting Scott, and battled him until he and Zanda escaped. Okoye and T'Challa followed them as the police stormed the building, and followed the two terrorists to a yacht. The two managed to defeat the two, and upon returning to Wakanda, Okoye told T'Chaka that T'Challa proved himself on the field.

Although they succeeded in killing Thanos' forces when Thanos himself came on Wakanda, Okoye and the other heroes were completely overpowered and unable to stop him from completing the Infinity Gauntlet , though Okoye remained one of the survivors. In the wake of the Snap , Okoye joined the Avengers, serving under the command of Natasha Romanoff whilst simultaneously leading the Dora Milaje in Wakanda.

Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo may have also used a light touch here because their previous Avengers film, Infinity War, included a lengthy battle sequence set in Wakanda, and they wanted to leave room here to spotlight characters that did not feature heavily in that film.
