Both inside and outside, where the open-air and top 49th floor, with its illuminated round bar, is the crown jewel.

The glistening new tower stands 49 stories high- making it comfortably the tallest building in the neighbourhood- and presenting fabulous, unobstructed panoramic views from its open-air rooftop deck. A multifaceted venue, Octave occupies interconnected spaces on the upper levels of the hotel tower, offering a variety of options for patrons, ranging from a laid-back lounge ambiance on the lower level, private indoor dining rooms and more intimate bars on the mid-levels, to the spectacular open expanses of the rooftop deck bar for the ultimate high-altitude drinks experience. Guests arrive via dedicated elevators to the 45th floor reception- and the main bar and lounge zone of Octave. Set across an open deck space that spans one side of the curving facade of the building, an impressive bar crafted from stone and solid timber stands at one end of the deck- with the DJ booth at the opposite end. Generously spaced sofa settings extend across the glass fronted front edge of the deck, with a section of timber bench tables set into back wall offering an alternative seating option.

The sleek and classy decor of this bar is inspired by some of the most chic apartment terraces of New York city. Not only can you sip on perfectly crafted cocktails and fine wines as you take in the ethereal view of Bangkok city and watch the sunset, you can also grab delicious gourmet fare on offer here.

Well worth a visit to this affordable rooftop bar, ideally catching day light, sunset then darkness when the lights come on and the alfresco Octave atmosphere seems to build further. We booked a table by the edge for drinks only and were free to stay Service was good and the prices were kinder than a number of the other well known rooftop bars. The position afforded us a view , looking right up and down Sukhumvit Road and the Chao Praya could also be seen snaking in the distance. Perhaps more limited than some other lofty vistas but good enough for me. My only minor irritation was the dress code. We all made the effort to suitably attire but then followed a flip flop wearing man up to the top floor and encountered a number of other customers who seemed seemed to be ignoring the rules also.

I was blown away by the panoramic views of the city from above. The bar is situated across several levels with the top one being my personal favorite as it offers the most impressive view. The bar features a live DJ every single night and a wide menu featuring some of the best cocktails, mocktails and wines in the whole city. You can expect exceptional service and delicious food but, be warned, it is pretty pricey.
