Until the events of the Fourth War , N'Zoth remained notoriously elusive and was largely a mystery, [10] being the last Old God besides the deceased Y'Shaarj that had still yet to be directly encountered by adventurers. There were also whispers that N'Zoth desired nothing more than to twist what was once noble and pure to its own inscrutable ends. Although considered the weakest of the four by Xal'atath and Azshara , [11] [12] N'Zoth was responsible for the corruption of the black Dragon Aspect Neltharion into Deathwing , [13] [8] [14] as well as that of Queen Azshara and her Highborne , turning them into the naga , [15] the co-creation of the Emerald Nightmare , [8] [16] the Cataclysm , and the restoration of the Black Empire. He imbued Deathwing with untold amounts of power, while he was recovering and absorbing the Elemental Plane 's energies from Deepholm at the same time. This destabilized the elemental realm and threw the Elements into turmoil, in an event known as the Elemental Unrest. At N'Zoth's word, Deathwing exploded from Deepholm into Azeroth, breaking down the boundaries between the two realms, and igniting a chain reaction of natural disasters around the planet, collectively known as the Cataclysm. Meanwhile, Cho'gall and the Twilight's Hammer successfully took control of the Highlands from the Wildhammer dwarves , establishing the Bastion of Twilight.
