Take the elevator to the seventh floor and you enter into an open-plan space with large windows overlooking the city skyline. If Gwyneth Paltrow were to be spotted sipping a green tea she would fit right in. There is also a full drinks list including classic cocktails and a seasonally changing menu of shared plates and light bites. The latter are served in threes and have been created to complement Champagne in particular. Oysters served with a traditional shallot vinaigrette are the delicious accompaniment. From the menu, we also choose Gnocchi which presents more as a mini blini with creamy aubergine garnished with a thin seaweed crisp.

In the lead up to the mid week picnic, the weather had been all sunshine and blue skies! Welcome to Scotland! There is an air of elegance and sophistication with the lounge's chic interior setting the tone for a wonderful time sipping champagne or a dram. The extensive champagne list boasts an impressive selection, from renowned labels to hidden gems waiting to be discovered. We were luckily to have been seated here and it really did provide the ultimate Edinburgh backdrop for our picnic. Tea and coffee can be ordered but you will need to pay for these separately as they are not included. The picnic table arrives and it is laden with sweet and savoury goodies. Buttermilk and Golden Syrup Scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The Pistachio and Rose cake was not only beautiful to look at, it also tasted beautiful with a light delicate flavour of rose and the pistachio crunch. The meringue kisses were sweet and melt in your mouth, I loved the Apricot daisy cookie as they remind me of stained glass but unfortunately the whisky posset was over whipped and slightly lumpy; however the flavour was there and worked well.

People at ground level can keep their tepid beers and hot drinks, as they need to stay warm while wearing bronze medals at close proximity to the cold pavement.
