PipeCast [0] is pretty recently active, and the first sentence of the readme has a certain MayeulC on July 18, prev next [—]. It does include a built-in "play to kodi" feature, though, which fits my use-case better, personally. But I agree that more options would be beter Chromecast though I despise it, nymphcast. YouTube Vanced will no longer see any future updates or releases. I've been using it exclusively for YT content for years now, so it's sad to see it go. There are alternatives as I've recently discovered, with NewPipe seeming to be the best replacement. Similar concept as Vanced, but slightly different looks and functionality. Still ad-free, background playback, even has a pretty nice and configurable built-in video downloader. One major feature missing that I've discovered is the lack of casting ability, which doesn't seem like it'll be implemented although there are some workarounds. Just sharing the news as I believe it was someone here that initially turned my attention onto Vanced years ago. That's sad. I just updated the root version to the latest. The best YouTube app. Never heard of newpipe. Honestly I'd prefer open source software over a closed source one that interacts with your Google account. While the Vanced app code wasn't open-source, the library Vanced used to interact with your Google account microG is in fact open source.

Oh my. I just realized that throughout this whole thread you never mentioned what your device is. I understand any reluctance to go the Kodi route as it would require some kind of box. Technically it can be had for very little. Sadly, finding a list of non-Android boxes is not as easy as I thought. I now have an Asus Zenfone 8 with eOS 1. But also to watch videos via the browser I once also had a media box and KODI for a while to watch movies.
The client doesn't use YouTube APIs and simply parses the YouTube website to extract data and play the videos you want, without any restrictions or ads. Due to the way NewPipe works, it also circumvents any limitations that Google might add to the YouTube app. For instance, YouTube recently restricted the quality of videos on smartphones to p in India following the nationwide lockdown imposed in the country in response to the COVID outbreak. But users could easily overcome this restriction by using NewPipe instead. Now, in a bid to make the client even more useful for users, the developers behind NewPipe are rolling out a major update that brings support for Android TV, adds a YouTube Music parser, and more. According to a recent blog post from the developers, NewPipe version 0. While you could already run previous versions of NewPipe on an Android TV, the client didn't officially support the platform.
