M ulti-frame noise reduction helps to reduce picture noise by building up exposure and allow larger ISO numbers to be selected than the normal maximum ISO sensitivity. Personally, I think it's useful to have, as another available option, helpful in some situations within it's limitations. That is exactly right. Also the sun has completely set for a few hours at least. It's great for handheld interiors too - when you want to capture as much detail in a low lit room but don't have a tripod or don't have time to set one up - and want to preserve that low light feel and atmosphere that would be lost with a flash.
