The original skit debuted November 16 th , with Gasteyer and Shannon hosting a fictional talk show on National Public Radio NPR where they discuss cooking and culinary issues. Characters Margaret Jo McMullen and Teri Rialto introduce their show with the same three lines in the same exact voice each time,. Ironically, the two speak in played up monotonous tones the entire skit even as they describe delicious food their guest of the day has brought them to try. With this, they are imitating all boring radio talk shows out there, since typical hosts often talk in deep, serious voices. Margaret and Teri appear to be quite boring people but still imply that their greatest joys in life are ridiculously simple things, like for example National Dietary Fiber Day. It is funny because they are fairly unexciting people and seem to put on an incredibly lame talk show. They discuss holidays, for example, that most people do not even know exist. However, the guests of each episode liven up the mood and essentially serve as the punch line. I think we both assumed — and I think, wrongfully — that a baker of your generation might tend towards a more… drier, crusty muffin. Uneventful, slow moving, and even a little awkward do not sound like characteristics of any thing that would make people laugh; well this is just the beginning. Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer open their show with dull tones, lame jokes, and what sounds like an extremely boring topic. The dialogue of their show, though, is laced entirely with double entendre. Is that a cherry? This is the point at which the mature audience typically becomes aware of the less than elementary interpretation. Saturday Night Live is known for their sexual double entendre, and while it may be tiresome for people after a while, Florence Dusty seems to reintroduce the comedy in a new light.
