Tim is the story of the developing relationship between Mary Horton, an older, educated and wealthy American woman who lives on her own, and Tim Melville, a handsome, developmentally impaired year-old builder's labourer, whom she hires. Tim lives with his sister, Dawnie, who is a year older than he is, and their parents Ron and Emily. Dawnie marries her boyfriend, Mick Harrington. Dawnie and Mick make clear they dislike Mary and oppose her relationship with Tim, but do not state their reason for feeling that way. Tim eventually marries Mary.

The story surrounds their relationship and Tim's bonds with his family; it is all very pleasant but stretched to the breaking point with dull passages and a narrative focus on events of little consequence.

I would rate this depth perception movie an 8 due to its' targeted depths it has, and the pleasantly lasting impression it made on me and not just Gibson's short-short blue jean cutoffs I love this Family friendly Australian movie, it's tender, kind, sweet, and full of hope and a mel gibson film tim gem!
