If you look at the statistics, the Netherlands still has quite a few supercars. Well, as soon as it was safe to do so, of course. The one spotted was registered brand new on Dutch license plates in According to the RDW, the owner had to pocket no less than , euros for it… Costs a bit, but then you have something. It only has to put up with the even more extreme R above it. By the way, the LT is already certainly not bad either.

McLaren has confirmed to Autocar that it will be building a road-going version of its S GT4 racing model, dubbed R. Alongside a prominent rear spoiler and front splitter arrangement, there's a roof-mounted air scoop and new intakes cut out from the bonnet. A specific wheel design, most likely made from a super-light material such as magnesium, can also be seen. Whether that will be the race-bred coilover setup remains to be seen. Running the registration plate reveals that this R is powered by the same twin-turbo 3. The interior is yet to be seen, but expect faithful race-spec details such as bucket seats, six-point harnesses and the removal of non-essential hardware and features. It will be built in strictly limited numbers, although probably not as exclusively as the 10 S MSO X cars built for US customers, and is expected to cost significantly more than the LT. More details should follow some time next year. Lighter, faster and more athletic than the already brilliant S, the LT is McLaren at its very best. Autocar's exclusive McLaren F1 road test: 25 years on. Hahaha I wish.

It's more expensive than a Porsche GT3 RS , but less exotic than a Ferrari Pista , which opens itself up for comparison with a whole host of hardcore supercars. But it also comes to market with plenty of kudos behind it, as the first Woking product to bear the LT suffix — the LT — was not only one of the most acclaimed road cars to emerge from modern-day McLaren, but also one of the best supercars ever, full stop. It's fitting, then, that the LT scooped our evo Car of the Year, transcending McLaren's Russian doll issue to remain one hell of a desirable supercar. Combined with reduced weight more below , the speed on offer is immense — mph takes 2. For reference the bhp LT takes an identical 2. Top speed is equal with the S at mph. As those figures suggest, the McLaren is explosively fast, an impression that's enhanced by the car's almost '80s levels of turbo lag. On the track you'll barely notice it as you wring every last rev out of the V8 and revel in its relentless, fire-spitting pace, but on the road the lethargy below rpm can catch you out — you'll be dusted by turbodiesel hatches if you're not alert. Yet learn to work around this foible and you can make alarming progress, the LT firing down the road with a rocket-propelled malevolence that even shades some bona fide hypercars. That said, it's not the most orchestral of engines.

Looking at the McLaren R, it's hard not to be impressed by the manufacturer's growth over the last three decades. First, the R. Essentially a road-legal version of the S GT4 race car, it pushes out horsepower and will comfortably hit 60 mph in under three seconds. Secondly, some historical background. McLaren famously produced every gearhead's ultimate dream car - the F1. Once that was finished, there was some restructuring, and it built an entirely new lair in Woking, England. It seemed like road car development was dead, but McLaren was actually working on an all-new supercar to end all supercars.

The soft feeling of the S suspension is robbing your brain from understanding how well in control of the tires it really is so it feels like the car is lifting when it really isn't. Have read that MSO is planning to offer one but I am not sure if that is a true note.

McLaren is known for making cars that are preternaturally quick, and the LT is perfectly equipped to deliver on this promise.

I drove both on the same circuit as well as GT and felt the s was easier to place and had less push than the s. You can especially tell that the front tire doesn't even fit the wheel correctly, it looks too narrow on the rim, and the wheel-well gap is all wrong because it was supposed to be a size. Thanks to the use of even more carbon fiber, the LT is also 96 kg lighter than the S. The S has fancier suspension but it is WAY harder to trust it because of the way it made the car float at high speed and bounce over undulations and made it feel unstable during high speed braking.
