Marie is a recurring character in the Splatoon series. In Splatoon , she co-hosted Inkopolis News and Splatfest events. Her signature color is lime green. Marie is a very fashionable Inkling with a remarkable resemblance to her cousin, having a more "laid-back" design than her in comparison. She has a light peach skin tone and light gray tentacles, two of which are longer and usually tied in a large bow on the right side of her head; they wrap around to the other side and curl up slightly at the tips, which have a green gradient and are decorated with spots. Additionally, she has a right-parted bang and a smaller one on the left, usually hidden under her hairpiece. She has large golden eyes with darker pupils shaped like four-pointed stars, large oval eyebrows, and a beauty mark under her right eye, mirroring the one on Callie's left cheek.

Artist Seita Inoue also wanted to capture the "homemade feel" of upcoming idol presentations on radio programs and late-night shows, illustrating them as characters whose popularity had not quite exploded. The designs for them were originally conceived by one of the developers who created the generic non-playable characters for the title, with Inoue drawing their art afterward. When writing the pair, the development team were very particular in how they would speak, with some speaking up if they felt a line was out of character for one of the girls. In early drafts of the game, they were originally shrine maidens , who would received messages from "God". These "messages" would have actually been sound waves that traveled from present day conversations to another planet and back to Splatoon ' s version of Earth, which was set 12, years in the future. The duo receive these, and misinterpret them as coming from a divine power. Several elements of their design were intended to reference their "squid" nature, such as the splay of their fingers, and their pupils which resemble those of a squid. Multiple hair styles were also considered, and while they were being decided, they chose to go with a sleeker look for the characters.

Eventually, marie splatoon, she and Agent 4 discover that Callie has been brainwashed by DJ Octavio using his hypnoshades and are forced etr: ads fight him and Callie; as the battle continues, Marie is able to shoot off the hypnoshades with a Hero Marie splatoon, bringing Callie back to her senses and waking her up. Marie is part of the Squid Sisters and is a side character in the manga. She also appears as Agent 2 in Chapter 8 and Chapter 9. She makes a reappearance in Chapter 44 when she recruits Goggles and Gloves to get the Zapfish back from Octavio who stole them again.
