I've just moved up from London to Manchester and I'm keen to know the best areas around for birding. Today I spent a few hours at Clayton Vale - a beautiful stretch of woodland that follows a section of river, which I would have expected to be teeming with life but was fairly disappointing. Maybe it's the wrong time of year? Or the wrong time of day I was there from 12 til 2 on a blisteringly hot day But are any of them particularly good for birds? Any regional 'specialities', perhaps?
