Originally used by the U. Spacy during Space War I , these variable fighters have become an iconic symbol in the Macross timeline , so much so that "Valkyrie" is sometimes used as a synonym for "Variable Fighter". When it came to naming "Valkyrie" was used as a tribute to the real world XB Valkyrie, which was an experimental supersonic strategic bomber developed in the United States in the s. It was preceded into production by an aerodynamic proving version of its airframe, the VF-X. Unlike all later VF vehicles, the VF-X was strictly a jet aircraft, built to demonstrate that a jet fighter with the features necessary to convert to Battroid mode was aerodynamically feasible.

Forgot your password? Wing Surface area, and total lack of elevators. Not going to get into the insanity of the transformation of the leg hand off system. Now the usual argument is that the VF-1 uses Thrust vectoring, however a lot of Air Forces have been playing around with that and one thing the NASA High Alpha Research Vehicle test program has shown is that it can not come close to replacing the elevators, they are better for enhancing an aircraft not replacing critical flight controls. Thrust Vectoring with the VF-1's elevator tabs that are on the legs still will not provide the the maneuverability and control needed for the aircraft. Now I have seen posts referencing the F Nighthawk as an example of a aircraft without elevators, but even if it was given a F "Fighter" moniker, the F was a Bomber It could only carry 2 bombs and that is it. It was never made to do anything like dogfight or dodge period. If it went to crazy on its angle of attack the wings would fall off, it was a Gen 1 Stealth plane and was built for one job sneak in drop some bombs, sneak out. Without elevators the VF-1 is highly unstable which isn't that big of an issue, but simply cant bank, turn, or pitch, well at all. Most Generation 4 Aircraft like F, F, or the SU would fly circles around the VF-1 which has little to no maneuverability in fighter mode especially at low speed. I have seen people try and point to the McDonnell Douglas X which yes is tailless but it had canards to act as elevators which once again does nothing to address the flaw. Even the most widely used tailless design aircraft in the world, the Dassault Mirage always had problems with pitch and canards were added in later version to solve the problem.
At the back of the instruction booklet there's a color and decal guide, which I found very helpful. Let Us Help You.
It is the variant of the VF-1 Valkyrie that was used by U. The final of the four minor VF-1 variants, the VF-1S carries the heaviest weapon load of the standard variable fighter. Manufactured only in limited numbers, Northrom also enlisted Kyuusei Industry to design a new head unit for their own variant. See also: Roy Focker History. After a disastrous defeat in space, Captain Global , via First Lieutenant Hayase , ordered all fighters to scramble and Major Focker got in his VF-1S to lead out the Skull Squadron, going to war for the first time in two years. Roy casually used the missiles on his VF-1S to destroy a Gnerl that was approaching VT and told Hikaru to follow his lead, but beams from another Gnerl then hit VT and Hikaru blanked out, later crash-landing. The joints are a little creaky now. He may be a bit beat up from years of play, but he still feels special; to borrow a phrase from Full Metal Jacket , there are many like it, but this one is mine. Long before American toy company Hasbro brought Jetfire to the west as a heroic Autobot, the mecha was arguably the breakout star of the Japanese animated TV series, Super Dimension Fortress Macross — a episode space opera epic that took in alien giants, daredevil pilots and galaxy-saving pop songs. Animated by Studio Nue, Macross famously emerged in the west as Robotech , a somewhat compromised hybrid of both the original Macross series and two other similarly futuristic anime shows from Japan.

M'Kyuun Posted May 24, Am I missing something on the bare valk that's not shown in original art or on the toy? The VF-1 valkyrie in battroid mode is also much stronger than the average Zentradi soldier and is able to defeat them in unarmed combat with ease. Nekko Basara Posted May 22, After a couple of transformations in which parts kept falling off, I decided that I would just leave it in fighter mode and not even bother with it anymore. This mode is the intermediate one which was originally intended to simply allow the craft to land in a combat zone with a maximum of defensive ability. M'Kyuun, I'm not trying to say the VF-1 is unstable in a bad way. VF-1S Valkyrie. Thrust vectoring for pitch control is sort of like balancing a broomstick on your hand, it can get away from you very quickly if you can't react fast enough to keep up. Not a good product, bad quality and too small. On my VF-1S, for example, the right arm stays on just fine, but the left arm tends to fall off even tho both arms are snapped in properly.

I am not even going to bother trying to put the decals on it or paint it. You have to be a professional or something and have luck on your side that the parts you need to not break, whittle down, and most of all, hold together. Gun pod can not be attached in fighter mode without the included adapter, and the gun pod grip which is needed for gerwalk and battroid mode has to be removed in order to put the gun pod in said adapter. Nekko Basara Posted May 22, Note: This is not a review of the seller; I bought this kit from a local shop near me and am just sharing my experiences with building it. Roy climbing into his VF-1S. It kept poking out slightly and the door that closes to latch the legs into place would not stay shut. The joints cause pieces to fall off.
