Originally I purchased this in Constructavist to be a strong base colour for my darker shadows and it worked beautifully. It wasn't till I tried the shade Painterly, however, that the product's full potential was revealed. I now use that shade as my only eyelid primer. It creates a smooth base that It works better than other eyelid primers and even has a third effect as a under-eye concealer not it's best function mind you, but in a pinch it gets the job done. I purchased three of these a couple of weeks ago after having previously tried some colors. Overall here is the review of each color I have: Painterly- Good basic eye base or for those days when you want bare but not red eyelids. It has no sparkle but doesn't give a matte dry look. Works well under Constructivist- Great brown color that goes on beautifully with a finger tip and less so with a brush.

How have all of you been? I had heard bloggers and Youtubers rave about the paint pots so I picked it up in the shade Painterly. A highly pigmented, long wearing eyeshadow that goes on creamy and dries to an intense, vibrant finish. The innovative second skin-like formula blends smoothly over the lids and creates seamless, buildable coverage without looking heavy or cakey. Its superior colour purity stays true and will not streak or crease. Pro Longwear Paint Pot can be mixed with other products like Mac shadows and liners. Paint pot in painterly can be worn on the eyes as a cream eyeshadow with a brown or taupe in the crease or can be worn as a eyeshadow primer also.

Painterly, a clean, classic nude beige with a matte finish, is one of my favorite cream eyeshadows in the MAC Paint Pot line. Mostly, I use it as an eyeshadow base or to even out my lid color by buffing a single layer of it on with a MAC before some cat eyeliner and mascara. It keeps other colors true to the way they look in their pans, which is a nifty trick. On my now, this time of year slightly dry lids, Painterly lasts all day long without creasing, but if you have uber-oily lids, you might want to give it a hand by applying it atop a layer of NARS Pro-Prime or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I have found that I have to be careful about how much Painterly I use…because when I apply too much, it settles in some places more than others and ends up looking patchy. I think the powder evens the surface a bit more, making everything easier to blend. I know a lot of gals, from fair to dark, NW and NC alike, who adore Painterly for its prowess as an eyeshadow base. I have to admit — I was a skeptic at first. I have been using that the past couple days with good results.
