She was born in the frontier town of Miradero to railroad scion Jim Prescott Jr. Milagro unfortunately died before Lucky was old enough to get to know her. Presumably due to this, Lucky left Miradero with her father when she was two years old, but returned to live there with him and her Aunt Cora when she was twelve. Lucky is Julian and Olivier's cousin. Lucky is gutsy, adventurous, and is the owner of Spirit Jr. While she was twelve, Lucky lived with her father and Aunt Cora.

Abigail Stone is one of the main characters of Spirit Riding Free. She's funny, but a bit naive when it comes to figuring things out. Abigail is a very pretty yet kinda plump and chubby young girl. She has short blond hair in a bob cut. She typically wears a white blouse shirt with leaf patterns on its short sleeves, blue plaid pants, and brown boots that have her barefoot underneath. Her eyes are blue. Sometimes she wears her hair in pigtails. Abigail enjoys crafting, horseback riding, talking, and giving animals cute names.

Lucky 's father visits the class at the Schoolhouse , teaching them about dinosaur fossil discoveries made near Miradero , and inspiring Miss Flores to plan a fossil hunting field trip, which Lucky's dad plans to join. Snips observes him kissing her, and points out that Miss Flores is treating Lucky like Lucky is the "teacher's pet", a nickname Lucky's classmates taunt her with, much to Maricela 's consternation, since she considers herself the teacher's pet. Tired of being teased, Lucky plans to to prove them wrong by causing havoc on the field trip. But Miss Flores delights in Lucky's overly spicy cooking and seems to forgive Lucky having let Spirit join the dig when the horse inspires discovery of prehistoric bones. They overhear Miss Flores rehearsing a confession that she buried the bones, which are actually just cow bones. The class wants to have the bones put on exhibit. Lucky tells Miss Flores that she is trying to do all sorts of naughty things so Miss Flores would treat her harshly, hoping that she wouldn't be called the teacher's pet. The two of them come up with a plan to fool everyone else, Lucky takes the blame for hiding the modern-day bones, and Miss Flores pretends to get mad at her.
