Long ram 413
This is a very rare set of Mopar long runner intake manifolds designed to make the engines - mostly found in the letter cars maximize air flow, power, long ram 413, and torque.
The B and RB engines are often referred to as "wedge" engines because they use wedge-shaped combustion chambers ; this differentiates them from Chrysler's Hemi big block engines that are typically referred to as "Hemi" or " Hemi" due to their hemispherical shaped combustion chambers. The corporation had been seeking a smaller and lighter replacement for its FirePower engines, in part because new styling dictates meant moving the engine forward in the chassis which negatively affected weight distribution. Design features of the B and RB engines include 17 capscrews per cylinder head , a cylinder block that extends 3 in In order to provide a lower hood and center of gravity, the engine to be mounted lower than before. Apart from changing the engine dimensions and engine mount position, this also entailed reconsidering the distributor drive and oil pump locations. The oil pump could not be allowed to extend below the crank throw to avoid interfering with the steering linkage.

The cu in 5, cc B engine was, along with thethe first production B engine, first long ram 413 in The factory carbs proved to be a bit too rich so they were jetted down about 4 sizes restulting in an air fuel ratio average of With race gas degrees of timing worked best.
I have a rebuild long Ram engine that I plan on using in a fairly heavy car 3,lbs. The engine specs are as follows: bored to cid Stock rods, polished side beams, rebushed with resized big ends 9. I am a bit nervous about todays oils and have decided to upgrade to a hyd roller cam before I fire it off. Goals are pump gas, low mainetance, mainly street driven package, enough vacuum to use power brakes, but with some teeth when I want to make a hard run or two at the strip on the weekends. Any grind suggestions? Best sources?
Naturally, powerful acceleration was a key element, but it was intended to make premium models more capable on the road, and not meant for speed contests. Part of that perspective changed when the division released the C in Fitted with the hp, cu. Adventurous CEOs could feel the excitement of raw power while seated in a luxurious cabin, surrounded by coachwork that spoke of edgy—yet not audacious — exclusivity. Chrysler restyled the F with an aggressive front end and grille; the following year would see yet another restyle, this time with distinctively canted headlamps.

While the setups were relatively rare even when new and produced in their original form for only a few years, the principle behind them is commonplace throughout the auto industry today. In a common four-stroke engine, every time the intake valve slams shut, the air-fuel charge packs up behind it. This occurs because the charge has mass and inertia, and at 6, rpm it happens 50 times per second. Each time, a reflecting pressure wave is sent back up the intake passage toward the atmosphere at the speed of sound. Thus we can get more air into the cylinders and produce more output. The drawing above also shows, from the inside out, how Chrysler executed the ram principle on production cars. The standard intake manifold was exchanged for a pair of long-tube aluminum castings, one for each bank of the V8 and each one fed by a Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor. Note how the manifold runners are draped over the valve covers for hood clearance, and the balance tube connecting the two manifolds for smoother idle.

My understanding of that long ram setup is that it is all done by about rpm if it has the divided runners so the cam choice I would think will be pretty mild. Contents move to sidebar hide. Horsepower and torque ratings gradually declined through the years because of the addition of more federally mandated emissions controls, until all Chrysler passenger vehicle big-block production ceased in Who's "Porter"? On the original Mopar setup, the intake runners were sprawled across the engine compartment, but current manifolds are more efficiently packaged with the runners curled into a bundle, as with this lightweight composite manifold for the current Mustang GT, below. The RB "raised B" arrived one year after the launch of the B series engines, in cu in 6. The would continue in production until the end of the series, albeit only for truck installation. The had a fuel-injected version in only. In the event of shipping damage, customers must save all packaging and send 5 digital pictures so Musclecar Air Cleaners can initiate a shipping damage claim. Standard engine on the H was a hp, in line dual quad It's a stock with the optional Short Rams, so far I haven't figured out what color they would have been from the factory that year so for now the plan is to paint the engine black, the intakes red like the Long Rams and the air cleaners gold as they all were on LR Chryslers.
Whether that means power to weight ratio or putting huge engines in cars, Chrysler leapfrogged others. Painstakingly restored over many, the photos provided will reveal a truly extraordinary car in every way. Meticulously clean and accurate in every way you will just fall in love with what Virgil Exner and the Chrysler design team created.
While we strive to maintain a strong diversity of desirable parts, there simply aren't enough available to meet demand at times. I'm happy with how it turned out, stockish build with better quality parts, mild appearing pump gas friendly torque monster. Knowing this RAM induction, I designed two such distinctive tubes for my engine. The torque curve was very strong from 3, to 5, rpm and there wasn't any large drop offs in power or torque until approaching 6K. The HP peak was found to be right around at 5,rpm, and peak torque was at around 3,rpm, the surprise was that rather than being "peaky" as expected, the torque curve stayed very flat from 3, all the way to 5, I say "about" because that was what I was told on a phone call from the dyno opperator. Sure thing Fury. The new rating system produced lower, more realistic numbers for any given engine. If your cam choice moves your upshift RPM recovery above the tuned speed, the length stops working. I always loved the long rams well all cross rams for that matter. Not quite "headers" but pretty darn close! Wikimedia Commons has media related to Chrysler B engine.
Just that is necessary. A good theme, I will participate. Together we can come to a right answer.
