A subspecies has few variations when compared to the species as a whole. LeafWing subspecies should not diverge far from canon LeafWings. Exotic LeafWings have been living in the poison jungle since Clearsight came to Pantala. Due to living there for over years they have become nocturnal and gained a resistance to Poison, their wings are more elongated and are kind of sharp so they can cut through the foliage while flying through the jungle. They are also darker colors so they can camouflage at night. Desert LeafWings have been living in the open savanna and are better adapted to the desert than normal LeafWings. This subspecies developed quickly after a number of LeafWings ran away when Queen Wasp started the war. They usually are a dusty green color in order to blend in with the desert trees and bushes. They are the only living tribe that was mentioned in the Legend of the Hive , the other tribe being the now-extinct BeetleWings. Ex-Queen Wasp antagonized them so much that most of the trees, believed to be symbolic of the LeafWings, were destroyed after the Tree Wars, and trees were banned by HiveWing law from being included in artwork. This is most likely because Wasp believed the trees gave power to the LeafWings. They began their mission by burning Bloodworm Hive. LeafWings can be various shades of green and brown, even to the point of being nearly black in color. The webbing along their back splits into individual pieces near the base of the tail, which are shaped like leaves.
