As the killer's main obsession starts to take a hold after a brutal murder in the present, Emma finds herself in the center of imminent peril. With both her family and friends in danger, she sets out to uncover the town's dark mysteries and unmask the identity of the Lakewood Slasher. The third season follows the story of Deion Elliot, a local football star in Atlanta, who is tormented by the events of his tragic past.

The Lakewood Slasher is the identity used by various people during the Lakewood killings. The mask was originally worn by Brandon James in the 90's to hide his deformities. After finding out Brandon James was her father, Piper Shaw began to wear the costume and began killing people in his hometown, wanting revenge on her mother, Maggie Duval , blaming her for her fathers death. She also wanted revenge on her half-sister, Emma Duval , for having the family life that she didn't. She met and fell in love with Kieran Wilcox , who began helping her, initially wanting revenge on his father for abandoning him. After Piper revealed her identity to Emma, she almost killed her, however she was shot and killed by Audrey Jensen. After Piper's death, Kieran waited a few months before continuing the killings, now with the second motive of getting revenge on Audrey and Emma for killing Piper.
