Ksp delta v

Can someone please explain to me what Delta V is? Everyone talks about it, but I have no clue what it is, it's so frustrating.

Ksp delta v

It is a scalar that has the units of speed. As used in this context, it is not the same as the physical change in velocity of said spacecraft. A simple example might be the case of a conventional rocket-propelled spacecraft, which achieves thrust by burning fuel. Such a spacecraft's delta- v , then, would be the change in velocity that spacecraft can achieve by burning its entire fuel load. Delta- v is produced by reaction engines , such as rocket engines , and is proportional to the thrust per unit mass and the burn time. It is used to determine the mass of propellant required for the given maneuver through the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation. For interplanetary missions, delta- v is often plotted on a porkchop plot , which displays the required mission delta- v as a function of launch date. For rockets, "absence of external forces" is taken to mean the absence of gravity and atmospheric drag, as well as the absence of aerostatic back pressure on the nozzle, and hence the vacuum I sp is used for calculating the vehicle's delta- v capacity via the rocket equation. In addition, the costs for atmospheric losses and gravity drag are added into the delta- v budget when dealing with launches from a planetary surface. Orbit maneuvers are made by firing a thruster to produce a reaction force acting on the spacecraft. The size of this force will be. During the burn the mass of the spacecraft will decrease due to use of fuel, the time derivative of the mass being.

But mainly, I want to get rid of some bad ksp delta v, because is hard for me when I need to duplicate my ship size to get some new achievement.

How muchDelta-V does it take to to get from tylo's surface to orbit? I will have a refueling station in orbit AND on the ground, so I just to know how much is required to go between them. I use the chart from this thread. I have not gotten that far out myself yet, but it say a delta-v of is needed, which should at least be close. The vessel will speed up as it descends. I created a few fully reusable, single stage Tylo landers and rocket rovers rocket rover because why use landing legs when you could just use wheels instead and make a rover? Also, make sure that the TWR isn't too low. Also, an important thing to keep in mind is that you might want to completely leave off RCS. Finally, if you want a Tylo lander with an actual lander cabin, you'll have to make it a lot bigger than if you just use the external chairs.

The wiki suggests Minmus orbit can also be attained. So plenty enough to both land on and return to orbit around Minmus. The main trick to a Minmus surface sample return without landing your vehicle is sticking the ladder rendezvous at the end on your last wisps of EVA Prop. Except for the first landing of my Minmus base, and SSTM tourism, almost all my crew transfers around Minmus have been via jetpack.

I usually see it as a sort of qualifier, determining whether or not a ship is capable of reaching certain places and so forth. For interplanetary missions, delta- v is often plotted on a porkchop plot , which displays the required mission delta- v as a function of launch date. Such a diagram is useful since it enables calculation of a launch window , since launch should only occur when the mission is within the capabilities of the vehicle to be employed. It is used to determine the mass of propellant required for the given maneuver through the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation. Download as PDF Printable version. Pick a planetoid you wish to visit. The total delta- v to be applied can then simply be found by addition of each of the delta- v' s needed at the discrete burns, even though between bursts the magnitude and direction of the velocity changes due to gravity, e. While I'm designing a rocket and I test it, I have the same problem every time. Remember Me. This thread is quite old.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question regarding Delta V. A lot of times my rockets wont have enough to make a full burn, and I'll have to use the next stage to complete it, which puts my whole mission out of whack.

It's importance, as has been mentioned, is in determining the total magnitude of the changes the rocket may make to its velocity before it runs out of fuel; in the process it determines where a rocket may go given a certain mission profile. The more you can change it, the more places you are able to go. The deltaV will actually vary depending on your launch profile and the drag of the rocket. A rocket works essentially by exploiting Newton's Third Law of Motion: "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Store Page. While I'm designing a rocket and I test it, I have the same problem every time. This of course begs the question: how do you describe going from one place to another then? Mathematically, delta-V is calculated with the Rocket Equation Specialist mentioned - it takes the form:. Such a diagram is useful since it enables calculation of a launch window , since launch should only occur when the mission is within the capabilities of the vehicle to be employed.
