It details the life of the twins from their births, childhood, criminal careers, and eventual arrest. The book was adapted into the film Legend. He then flew to London and was taken to an Elizabethan mansion where he met the Twins over dinner. Pearson recalls asking Reggie about the bandage around his thumb to which Reggie said it was because of a gardening accident; the real cause was Reggie's murder of Jack McVitie a few weeks earlier. Pearson then says he had multiple sessions with the Twins the following months, asking them about their lives. The Twins had bought him a flat in Bethnal Green where they grew up. The last time he saw the Twins prior to their arrest was at their mother's flat in April
Ronald Ronnie Kray 24 October — 17 March and Reginald Reggie Kray 24 October — 1 October were English organised crime figures, and identical twin brothers from Haggerston , who operated mostly in the East End of London from the late s until their arrest in With their gang, known as the Firm which was based in Bethnal Green , the Kray twins were involved in murder , armed robbery , arson , protection rackets , gambling and assaults. At their peak in the s, they gained a certain measure of celebrity status by mixing with prominent members of London society, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television. The Krays were arrested on 8 May and convicted in as a result of the efforts of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read. Each was sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie, upon being certified insane, was committed to Broadmoor Hospital in and remained there until his death on 17 March from a heart attack ; Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August , five weeks before he died of bladder cancer. The Krays were thorough Eastenders - Charles from Shoreditch and Violet from Bethnal Green - and were apparently of mixed Irish , Austrian Jewish and Romanichal descent [5] [6] [7] - although this has been disputed. The Kray household was dominated by their mother, who remained the brothers' most important influence during their childhood. Kray was regarded as a minor celebrity in Bethnal Green for giving birth to and raising a healthy pair of twins at a time when the child mortality rate was high among the British working class.
Kray brothers book
An updated edition of the bestselling autobiography of Charlie Kray, elder brother of the Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie, who are brought to the screen this autumn in a major motion picture. Charlie Kray was the only person who knew the truth behind the terrifying violence of his notorious twin brothers, Ronnie and Reggie. In his dying days, reflecting on how the Kray name destroyed his life, Charlie reveals what he really thought about the twins - and why they treated him so badly. Today, 40 years after the arrests that ended their so-called reign of terror, the power the Krays wielded is part of criminal folklore - and the fascination with them lives on.

This is quite an angry book from a man who, clearly with some regret, kick-started the popular fashion for true crime in the United Kingdom with his first biography of the Kray Twins back in the s. Added to this mix we have the highly intelligent Inspector "Nipper" Read determined to see the bad guys brought to justice and peace restored to the streets of London. In terms of a biography, the story of the Kray twins is pretty interesting, although what I found most fascinating was the relationship between them and how this affected them, and each of their lives individually. It is true about the bond that twins share; they can't turn on one another. They were homosexual at a time and a place where that was the last thing you would want to be. I had to read this non-fiction history of the violent and unstable twin career criminals to cleanse my mind of the fantasy that is Little Legs Muscleman Of Soho. I really appreciate the straight forward linear manor with which John pearson writes his books. Although feared by many during their reign, the twins are incredibly fascinating and it is quite incredible the things they got away with over quite a long span of time before their arrest. They are still unsure of exactly how The Krays disposed of their victims, but some speculated about a crooked undertaker who for the right price could make sure two bodies fit in a casket instead of one. He is also a hetersexual despite the constant badgering from Ronnie. John Pearson gives us no answers here but his personal re-evaluation of his own relationship with these iconic organised crime figures must be added to the raw material from which an analysis will come. She was so beautiful, so stunning.

He made most of the conversation--which to tell the truth was slightly heavy going--speaking in a rapid, almost inaudible monotone. In other words, a little more contextualisation would have made the difference. While their antics could occasionally be reckless, they succeeded in making history and there's something about their story that I find engrossing. I thoroughly enjoyed this biography of sorts. They will continue to live on in the stories that are told about them, in the books that are written about them, and in the movies that portray their lives. It goes without saying that they were very disturbing people but there was even further disturbing details about them that I found out in this book. When the twins were put away, the book talks a lot of the bond that identical twins share. The nuts and bolts of their criminal empire are explained in detail both in what they did and how they did it. She said it is "for people who want to know more about the Krays aside from the crimes". Ronnie Kray was a psychopathic paranoid schizophrenic and a very dangerous man. The Observer. For a short, but memorable time a pair of criminal twins held London West and East in the palm of their hands.
In it something is. Clearly, many thanks for the help in this question.
