ACT has been established for over 50 years and we have over staff and more than amazing volunteers. Our services give people the stability, support and challenge which they need to enable AAs support young people or vulnerable adults who have been detained in custody. As an AA you would be present during an interview or other police procedure, at your local Police Investigation Centre, where you would ensure that due process is followed and is understood by the detainee and that any wellbeing issues for the vulnerable person are being addressed. AAs are independent of the Police, social care or solicitors. Our shifts run 9am — 1pm, 1pm — 5pm and 5pm — 10pm Monday — Sunday! The mix of daytime, evening and weekend shifts makes it an ideal volunteering opportunity to fit in around other commitments. You are able to choose slots in advance that are convenient for you. The rota is sent out a month in advance so you can select your availability as it suits you — any availability that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated however we do ask for you to offer a shift a week as a minimum if at all possible. Some of our volunteers are happy to do a day a week or more so there is plenty of opportunity to get stuck in, although we appreciate that people are also busy and we are as accommodating as we can be to allow for ever changing lifestyles and commitments. You will receive full training and be supported by the team at Anglia Care Trust. You will be able to attend Police interviews with experienced volunteers until you feel comfortable to work on your own. We welcome all applications even if you feel you have no relevant professional experience, if you are the right person with the right mind set, we will support you through training, shadowing and supervision.

A man has been taken to hospital and seven people have been arrested following an altercation. A new police investigation centre in West Norfolk will open next month, it was revealed today. The custody suite close to the entrance to the Palm Paper factory, the Norfolk Arena and King's Lynn power station in Saddlebow will be staffed by police staff and have 24 cells. Once opened, offenders arrested across West Norfolk and the Fens will be taken to the custody centre instead of a police station to be interviewed and dealt with. The six new invesitgation centres will replace almost cells in police stations across East Anglia. The centres are expected to have an operational life of 30 years, while officers staffing them will have access to the latest technical and forensic resources. Norfolk police say this will enable investigating officers to provide better support and service to victims and witnesses. The force hopes more effective investigations will help to reduce both crime and the fear of crime.
