What we say not only affects others, but it also affects us. Words are wonderful when used in a proper way. They can encourage, edify and give confidence to the hearer. A right word spoken at the right time can actually be life-changing. See Proverbs We can literally increase our own joy by speaking right words. We can also upset ourselves by talking unnecessarily about our problems or things that have hurt us in relationships. Not too long ago I had a disappointing situation take place with someone I considered to be a close friend. I noticed that each time I talked about it, I would have a difficult time getting it off of my mind for the remainder of the day. I finally realized that if I wanted to get over it, I was going to have to stop mentally and verbally going over it again and again. I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live. I have often pondered why some people do great things with their lives while others do little or nothing at all. I know that the outcome of our lives is dependent not only upon God, but also upon something in us. Each of us must decide whether or not we will reach down deep inside and find the courage to press past fear, mistakes, mistreatment at the hands of others, seeming injustices, and all the challenges life presents. This is not something anyone else can do for us; we must do it ourselves. I encourage you to take responsibility for your life and its outcome.

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]…. Jesus is the Word made flesh, so when we read, study, and meditate on the Word of God, we are fellowshipping with Jesus. As His Word becomes part of us, we are transformed into His image see 2 Corinthians His Word has inherent power in it, and it changes us! We are instructed in the Bible to meditate on the Word of God, and that simply means to think about it, roll it over and over in our minds, speak it, and know that as we do, it is renewing our minds and teaching us to think as God thinks. Our thoughts are extremely important because they go before our words and all of our actions. God has a good plan for each of us and we will see it come to pass as we renew our minds see Romans We seem to find it very easy to meditate on our problems. We call it worry! Each time a worry or a fear comes to your mind, find a Scripture that teaches you that God will take care of the problem for you and meditate on it instead of worrying.

One way the devil may try to keep you trapped in pain in your soul is by making you think you are missing out on something good you could have enjoyed had you not suffered the way you did. He may try to convince you that your life was destined to be wonderful before those painful events took place, but now that you have been wounded, it will not be as good as it might have been. This scheme of the enemy usually starts with two words: If only. I wasted a lot of time thinking, Things are better for me now, but they would be even greater if only I had not been abused. I would not have some of the problems I have now if only I had a normal childhood with parents who loved me properly. You may be thinking similar thoughts, which could include, If only my loved one had not gotten sick and passed away, I would be happy. Or, It would be so much easier for me to enter into new relationships if only So-and-So had not betrayed my trust and abandoned me. Think for a moment about how that would change the way you see yourself and the way you view your life. It could be, I had a very painful childhood, but God is healing me completely and restoring my soul, or I spent many years frightened, worried, and anxious, but God has given me peace, power, love, and a sound mind see 2 Tim.
