Jeff The Killer quickly became one of the most infamous Creepypasta creations but who is he? Creepypasta is a type of horror fiction that became popular around the rise of the internet, and they typically take the form of an urban legend or some kind of first-person account. Arguably the most famous Creepypasta character is the Slender Man, an impossibly tall, faceless creature that kidnaps people; he received a poorly reviewed movie adaptation with 's Slender Man. Other popular Creepypasta stories include "NES Godzilla Creepypasta," a sprawling epic around a haunted video game cartridge and "Dead Bart," which was said to be a lost episode of The Simpsons where Bart dies and the episode revolves around the intense grief of the family. The quality of these stories can be a mixed bag, with some like "Ted The Caver" being slow-burning and suspenseful, while others feel like they were thrown together in a couple of hours. Each season adapts or draws inspiration from a particular Creepypasta, with season 1 based on "Candle Cove" while season 4 pulled from "I Found a Hidden Door in My Cellar. Jeff The Killer is a character who ranks in popularity amongst Slender Man as one of Creepypasta's most popular villains.

Plenty of Creepypasta greats started circulating around then, but one of the first was Jeff the Killer. The fictitious-but-murderous Emo boy appeared all over the web by , but his origin is hotly contested. Like most copy-paste stories, the original idea has been passed from user to user, leading to multiple creators taking credit for the beloved internet murder. After all these years, there are plenty of derivative copies of Jeff the Killer, but these are the very first contenders to claim the pale killer as their own. Jeff has been memorialized in hundreds of stories and fanart pictures over the years, but perhaps his most well-known image the upsetting picture just above lives in infamy. As I said before, the picture has no clear source of origin, but two contenders have claimed ownership of the picture. The first and most widely corroborated and accepted is that YouTuber Sesseur originally created and shared a video on his account. The second from comes from Newgrounds user KillerJeff, who allegedly snapped the shot from a pop-up-scare video. Another rumor says that the picture was a photo of a woman photoshopped by multiple users until it was unrecognizable. Another debunked rumor claimed it was the last image of a 4chan user who later took her own life.
