When Rhaenyra was crowned queen, jacaerys, she officially named named her firstborn son, Jacaerys as the Prince Royal.

As civil war draws nearer on " House of the Dragon ," it's becoming clearer that entire families are going to be drawn into battle, even their youngest members. We've already met Jacaerys Velaryon as a child, but according to George R. Jacaerys Velayron, nicknamed Jace, is the firstborn son of Rhaenyra Targaryen and her first husband , Laenor Velaryon. Or, at least, that's what is publicly stated. In reality, he's the first son of Rhaenyra and her lover Ser Harwin Strong; they have a total of three sons together, all of whom are claimed by Laenor, who is secretly gay. King Viserys orders that his own son Daeron and Jace share a wet nurse, hoping that the pair being "milk brothers," as they are called, would somehow help ease the likely enmity between the two branches of the family.

Prince Jacaerys Velaryon , [c] nicknamed Jace , is a prince of the Targaryen dynasty , and the firstborn son of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. He is the rider of the dragon Vermax. Jacaerys is the eldest son of Rhaenyra Targaryen and her husband Laenor Velaryon, [6] and older brother of Lucerys and Joffrey Velaryon. He is second-in-line to inherit the Iron Throne after his mother, Rhaenyra. Per an agreement between Viserys I Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon , Jacaerys is expected to take the name "Jacaerys Targaryen" upon acceding to the throne. Although presented as legitimate, Jacaerys and his brothers are in truth bastards fathered by Ser Harwin Strong. There, Jace and Luke show the dragon egg that they chose for Joffrey, and Jace says that he let Luke choose. While there, Jace, Luke, and Aegon pull a joke on Aemond by giving him a pig dressed as a dragon and making squealing noises. When Harwin advises Criston to train the boys equally, Criston grabs Jace and has him fight Aegon, who Criston has knock Jace to the ground. Harwin steps in to defend Jace, and Harwin is provoked by Criston into attacking him.

Harwin Strong Deceased. His three sons are in fact jacaerys by Harwin Strong. Cregan gives Jacaerys a warm welcome, followed by the two men hunting, drinking, and training together before swearing an oath of brotherhood bound in blood, jacaerys.

Safety is largely an illusion in Westeros, but House Targaryen has a bigger target on its back due to its possession of the Iron Throne. More so than ever, the Targaryens fear for their lives as the blacks and greens fight for control of the crown. While no character can be completely safe in House of the Dragon , Jacaerys Velaryon is in no imminent danger. Aemond lost control of Vhagar, which led the huge dragon to bite Lucerys and Arrax in two. Unlike the blacks, the greens will be sending ravens to other Great Houses instead of dragonriders. One salacious source wrote that Jeyne told Prince Jacaerys Velaryon he could have her support if he could satisfy her sexually, but this is discounted by another narrator. The more believable account is that Jeyne Arryn told Jace that, as a woman whose rule has been contested, she must stick with Rhaenyra and other women in this world of men.

Jacaerys Velaryon's death is quietly set up in House of the Dragon 's season 1 finale. It was a brutal moment that properly instigated the Dance of the Dragons, but unfortunately for Rhaenyra, it isn't the last time she will lose a son in the battle against the greens. Jace is safe for now - unlike Luke, his trips as a messenger to the Vale and the North will not prove nearly so dangerous - but eventually he will be killed during the civil war. With the Velaryon fleet commanding the Gullet and thus access to Blackwater Bay, Otto Hightower struck a deal with the Triarchy, gaining their support and having them agree to break the Velaryon hold in exchange for trade deals and access. Meanwhile, after more losses to the blacks, Rhaenyra fears for the safety of her remaining children. Joffrey is sent to the Vale, but Aegon and Viserys are to go to Pentos. On the way there, however, they and the ships accompanying them are ambushed by the Triarchy with some 90 warships. Viserys is captured, but Aegon flies back to Dragonstone on his dragon, Stormcloud who is wounded and dies upon reaching the island. Jacaerys manages to jump free, but is fatally hit by a bolt from a crossbow.
