Lastly, prior to becoming a Yonko, Kaido faced off against a power greater than he was at that time. Indeed, it seems through that conflict he achieved, what in Dragon Ball would be termed a "power up" that made them stronger than ever before. Under these unwritten criteria, Luffy certainly satisfies the requirements of a Yonko.

Lastly, prior to becoming a Yonko, Kaido faced off against a power greater than he was at that time. Buggy, who owed him a lot of money, and he took out the Marines besieging the clown. First, he only got his start on the reputation of being a member of the Roger Pirates' crew, rather than pulling off some incredible feat. Seemingly because Buggy owed Crocodile money, the former Warlord came to collect just as the Marines are closed in on him and his crew.
