The X-Files is an enduring series specifically because of its variety. The mysteries are consistently intriguing, though the overarching story pales in comparison to the monsters of the week. Fans were treated to a revival recently, which offered hit-and-miss episodes. Spoilers included! The comedy of the series only works because a baseline of moody seriousness is promptly established. By allowing Mulder to act so out of character, the laughs come because of our familiarity with the show. So technically, every comedic episode is the best fan service imaginable. On that note, what could be better than Mulder finally visiting Area 51? This is a comedy about an alien abduction, and nothing could be more appropriate for the show.

The X-Files centers on government agents Mulder and Scully, who go around the United States investigating paranormal activity and possible alien sightings. This was technically the centerpiece of the entire series, and a story well that the writers could always come back to when they were running low on new ideas. The mytharc around an attempted alien invasion was never the best part of The X-Files. The best part of the series was Mulder and Scully solving spooky, supernatural mysteries together.
