So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator. The diagnostic trouble code DTC is stored if there is an over-advanced camshaft phase compared with the directed value or if the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal. The VTC system controls camshaft oil intake. By providing optimal engine efficiency and performance, the VTC system can maximize engine performance.

The diagnostic trouble code DTC P in Honda vehicles is an indication of an issue related to the timing control of the variable valve system. The VTC system plays a crucial role in determining the opening of the intake camshaft, effectively managing the amount of oil that flows into the camshaft. The VTC actuator, a central component of this system, is operated through oil pressure. It dynamically adjusts valve timing to maximize power output and ensure efficient operation under varying driving conditions. The valve timing, crucial for proper engine functioning, is directly influenced by the prevailing driving conditions. The PCM provides control commands that are continuously monitored to set the correct direct value for camshaft timing. When the camshaft phase becomes excessively advanced or deviates abnormally from the direct value, the system detects and stores the P code. To identify this malfunction, a diagnostic scanner is employed to read the code and highlight the issue. The P code has been known to appear in various Honda models, indicating potential problems within the VTC system. The P code indicates a moderate level of severity.

I looked up and staring me in the face was a blue hand towel I had stuck between the fuse box and the quarter panel this last Winter when dealing with the low oil issue. Usually I turn off the car and turn it back and the code will disappear and that's that. The oil is at right level but I really should change it.
We recommend Torque Pro. How much each valve will be opened is determined by the camshaft and the profile of its lobes. So, when designing the engine, the manufacturers must choose between the lowdown torque or the power output at high engine speeds.
JavaScript is disabled. Even more bizarre; my state inspection was due and it passed PA state inspection! The time now is AM. Reading the EOC, I know that it might take a few cycles for it to get cleared so I wasn't stressed about it, especially considering that I had just filled the tank yesterday and made sure that I clicked the cap about 4 times. I still have the OEM Honda vtc actuator, but it leaks oil, even after changing the oring twice with a Honda part. Just a thought. Anyhow, I took my Element in for service and they told me the VTC actuator is clogged which is kind of worrisome since I know its not an easy part to get to.
