Ever since moving into my new apartment, I have been on the hunt for a new television to grace my living room. There have been the usual suspects, including Samsung and Sony, but Hisense is a brand that I've seen in my local Best Buy and it seemed like a pretty solid option. For someone who has written about Android for years, there just has not been much of a desire to use an Android TV when my Chromecast makes it easy to cast whatever I want.

It has a VA panel that displays deep blacks, great for watching movies in the dark. It has decent reflection handling, but it doesn't get bright enough to combat glare in well-lit rooms. There aren't many extra gaming perks, and its input lag is higher than most TVs, but it should be fine for most casual gamers. Even though it's a 4k TV, it has some issues displaying native 4k content. Our unit has a group of stuck pixels near the bottom left corner, and there's visible backlight bleed along the edges during near-dark scenes. We don't know how common that issue is for this model. We decided to still publish the results since our unit is functional and it doesn't significantly affect the test results see our policy here. It's an okay choice for watching movies in a dark room because it displays deep blacks, but it lacks a local dimming feature. It has a decent picture quality with deep, uniform blacks in a dark room thanks to the high native contrast ratio. It's more suitable for a dim room where it can handle reflections well, but it can't get very bright to fight the glare of a bright room. Unfortunately, HDR performance is hurt by the low HDR peak brightness, the lack of a wide color gamut, and the lack of local dimming. On the upside, the response time is fast, so fast-moving content is displayed with minimal blur. Also, the input lag is very low, which helps the TV deliver a responsive gaming experience.
