American Film Institute Catalog covers the history of American cinema comprehensively from to , with full or short records for films from to present. Recordings include pre-screening introductions by curator Haden Guest and programmer David Pendleton and personal introductions by filmmakers as well as post-screening question and answer sessions between curators, programming staff, audience, and filmmakers. Recordings in the collection reflect the diversity of content in the HFA's regular screening series, which offers a public cinematheque program, presenting films Friday through Monday nights. All screenings are held in the Archive's seat theater located in the historic Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts. The HFA frequently invites filmmakers to discuss their work and engage with the vibrant community of students, professors, artists and cinephiles who regularly attend HFA screenings.
