Grand Valley State made one big play after another in the fourth quarter to advance in the Division II football playoffs and keep its national title hopes alive. The Lakers cut into the deficit when a fourth-quarter drive into the red zone sputtered, and they settled for a yard field goal from Josh Gorball to make it with to go. That set up a play, game-winning drive that featured three plays of at least 14 yards, the last a yard run by quarterback Cade Peterson that set up a first-and-goal from the Pittsburg State Two plays later, quarterback Avery Moore punched it in from 5 yards out to give Grand Valley State a lead with 35 seconds left. Peterson was 9-for passing for yards and Moore finished with 44 yards rushing on six carries to go along with the go-ahead score. Tariq Reid led the Lakers with 65 yards rushing on 18 attempts and scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in the first half. With the win, Grand Valley will face Harding , a winner over Central Missouri, in a quarterfinal next weekend. Alma rallied from a point fourth-quarter deficit and scored all its points in the final quarter to rally past Mount Union for a win in a second-round playoff matchup.
