The Ape also has a connection to the Sculptor from the latter's younger days when he trained in the Sunken Valley.

This ape is a measured test of endurance. In Phase 1 the Guardian Ape will circle around you waiting for the opportune moment to strike. After finally depleting all of his health and getting the deathblow by using the sword in his neck to chop off his head, you may think the fight is over. On the first play through it is a real pain but once you know what you're doing it's a very fun boss. You cannot unlock the Phoenix lilac umbrella until you get the finger after defeating this boss.
