The Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment GTPA was completed based on the final practicum experience of the degree, encouraging myself to demonstrate that I am able to meet all the requirements outlined by the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers throughout the teaching and learning cycle, including assessing and reflecting on teaching and learning. Using observational and student data, supervising teacher feedback, and regular lesson reflections, I explained the skills-based and explicit teaching approach I implemented in preparing diagnostic testing and case studies to prepare student for success over the remainder of the Year 11 Natural Hazards unit. It was integral to align my lessons with the necessary curriculum content, which became especially relevant in preparing case studies. These lessons were also designed with specific needs of students in mind, outlined in the attached document. Formative assessment outlined that students were familiar with some content but were nervous about completing the unit, as this was the first examination they had undertaken on a purely analytical level; the exam provided required students to analyse a previously unseen stimulus, and provide a synthesis of information, as well as demonstrating the ability to make informed decisions based on data provided. This provided an opportunity for regular class and individual feedback through incorporated ICTs, and facilitated feedback opportunities between teacher and student, and student and student. Through appraisal, it became clear that my pedagogical choices were slowly improving; building rapport with students allowed me to better understand which approaches they appreciated and worked for them, whilst applying feedback provided by my supervising teacher.
