Old Mate's Place has been a favourite in Sydney thanks to its hidden entrance, its cosy city rooftop, and its top-tier cocktails these guys invented the Mi Goreng Bloody Mary. Now, the Old Mate's crew has taken on the lease of the basement of the same building—and they have a few special things in store. For now, the basement bar is Ginny's Canoe Club. It's essentially a limited-run pop-up while the team schemes for a full renovation of the space and something "really special", says co-owner Dre Walters.

There's also an after-hours menu that's only available from 10pm — helping to combat Sydney's severe lack of late-night restaurants.
