Of all the guitars the Beatles made famous, the only one that John, Paul and George had in common was the Epiphone Casino. Each owned a Casino and used it for countless recordings and performances. Paul McCartney was the first Beatle to acquire george harrison epiphone casino Casino.
John and George did sand them and John Lennon famously used his for the rest of his life that way. I recently bought a standard new Casino Chinese made I believe. I had previously owned a Fender Coronado 1, also hollow body, which had insane tone both unplugged and amped. But it only had one pickup and a floating wood bridge which felt out of set with my playing and sonically limited. After doing some research online where I found a bunch of conflicting opinions on how to proceed I just decided to get a piece of sand paper and start. I did a couple small test spots on the back first. It takes quite a bit of sanding to get down to the raw yellow wood.

Epiphone was often seen as the redheaded stepchild after Gibson acquired the company in However, one Epi electric guitar has always outgunned its parallel model from the sibling brand, both for popularity and for street cred: the Casino. Ever since its arrival in the early s, the Epiphone Casino has been hipper and more successful than the Gibson ES, which features the same design and construction. Three names easily explain that phenomenon: John, Paul and George. Soon after, Lennon and Harrison bought Casinos of their own. The three Beatles guitarists used these Epiphone thinlines for a significant proportion of their time in the studio. Aside from their headstocks, small parallelogram block fretboard inlays and a few particulars regarding appointments and other minor construction details, the Casino and ES are very much alike. This construction, with laminated maple top, back and sides, makes for a lively instrument with much of the bite and attack of a semi-acoustic electric , and some of the warmth and depth of a bigger archtop jazz-box. This resonant acoustic foundation is complemented by a pair of P single-coil pickups, with their archetypal thick, rich, yet slightly gnarly and biting sound. A good Casino delivers plenty of sonic complexity and can segue seamlessly from sweet pop to throaty jazz Grant Green used an ES for much of his seminal work to raw rock and roll. In the wintry early months of , John Lennon embarked on a recording project that would prove to be momentous in its influence on rock music and the world at large. It will most likely still be sung and treasured for many years to come. At turns brutally honest and achingly intimate, the record opened up new vistas of expressiveness for songwriters and creative artists in every medium. It also contains some iconic guitar moments that team Lennon with his Beatles co-guitarist George Harrison. With deep shared roots but very disparate, distinctive styles, the two rock guitar icons mesh magically on tracks that encompass influences ranging from folk and blues to all-out rock. Also newly reissued, on restored, remastered DVDs from Eagle Vision, are two seminal films associated with the Imagine album. Imagine was an album made for rapidly changing times by a man whose own life was going through a similarly turbulent personal transition.

In late , former Beatle George Harrison released a holiday single of sorts. Luckily for Beatles fans—and for guitar fans in general— Harrison filmed a music video to go along with the tune. It's overflowing with cameo appearances by some but, unfortunately, not all of his most iconic Beatles-era guitars. Note that this was shot a full 10 years after the height of Beatlemania. Its six-pushbutton pickup selector system on the three-pickup Emperor was an arguable improvement over the six knobs Gibson used on its three-pickup ES-5, but in most areas of the market, Epiphone lagged behind Gibson. I was just using the paper in my hand- no block. You can post now and register later. Its too flat.
