G loomis pro 4x
The G. Loomis PRO4x comfortably handled any task we threw at it. The PRO4 presented dry flies as well as it handled drifting nymphs off a sink-tip line. The PRO4x incorporates a new taper that reduces weight in the top half of the rod. That keeps substantial strength and power in the butt section to help fight big fish and to add power to distance casts. Meanwhile the lighter upper sections allow quick recovery for added line speed, thus improving distance and accuracy. That supple upper also helps deliver small flies softly for a delicate presentation. With power and accuracy, combined with one of the lowest prices in the class, the PRO4x stands nearly at the top of the class in terms of pure performance. Indeed, this is the best rod in the class for anglers who prefer a natural cork grip to the novel synthetic grip of the Vapen Red. Casting Distance and Accuracy Though it falls well into the middle of the range for this class in terms of distance and accuracy, the PRO4x also offers good sensitivity, ensuring it can be effectively fished while nymphing, casting streamers, or delivering tiny dry flies. General fit, finish, and feel The deep moss green rod blank and black anodized aluminum components looks sharp, and the deeply cut half cork grip fit comfortably in hand for all our testers. Versatility We fished sinking tips in deep pothole lakes in eastern Washington while pursuing big triploids i. Across the board, the PRO4x was one of the most effective and efficient rods in all fly applications.

Loomis introduced its new G. Loomis PRO-4x rod series — rods that mimic the actions of the top-of-the-line NRX series because they share the same tapers, but they don't use the same expensive resin systems and carbon fibers as G. Loomis's best-performing rods. What you're left with is a series of well-designed rods that are fun to cast, and affordable enough that you can get more than one. Initially, the PRO-4x was a family of single-handed rods, but in it's expanding to include switch and two-handed models for everything from trout fishing in big rivers to true Spey casting for anadromous species. But you're even more likely to enjoy the price difference. Although the series is based on NRX tapers, there are some original gems in the family. The 10'6" 5-weight PRO-4x has no equivalent in the NRX series, yet our tester thought it was "the perfect trout switch rod. While most switch rods are actually too long and too heavy for extended use with one hand, this one is a real multipurpose tool that you can Czech nymph with, hit a snap-T when the bank is tight behind you, or cast dry flies to rising trout. Updated: Oct 29, The 9-foot fly rod—a staple in basically every fly angler's arsenal. What's not to love? That length is so popular because it provides the perfect blend of casting performance and ease along with solid line control capabilities. There's no doubt a 9-footer makes for a stellar all-around choice, but what about fly rods that are much shorter? Anglers fishing small brush-lined creeks know the tight-quarters advantages a shortened fly rod can provide, but there's also other times when a "standard" fly rod may not be the very best choice. Just like how a conventional bass angler uses a shorter rod for skipping under docks or close-quarters target casting, a smaller fly rod makes an equally excellent tool for similar pinpoint presentations at close range. Additionally, and in the case of this review, a short fly rod also makes one hell of a fish-fighting tool for bluewater species. Length: 7'6".
