It was acquired by the Salinas family in the 20th century. After the family moved into the palace they started a lengthy restoration process, trying to return the palace to its glorious days, using mostly income from the guided tours to cover the costs of restorations and upkeep for the palace grounds. The family had 12 kids, two of whom still reside in the palace, together with their mother who is over years old.
