Drought conditions throughout the province prompted Alberta Fires to open its fire season two weeks early and now the those dry conditions coupled with winds around Grande Prairie have further sparked an advisory. The fire advisory notes that the Grande Prairie Forest Area fire permits are still valid but new ones will be reviewed based on their own merits and only for essential burning. All other burning without a valid fire permit is prohibited, except for a campfire. Since January two new fires started in the Grande Prairie Forest Area and six were carryovers from As of Feb.
