Le Racing est finalement promu en Division d'Honneur D4 en [ 32 ]. Elle fusionne avec les Compagnons Sportifs Versaillais et change de nom pour devenir le Football Club Versailles 78 [ 41 ]. Versailles perd de ce fait des joueurs importants tels que Badoual, De Georgi ou Fofana [ 42 ]. En , avec la restructuration des divisions amateurs nationales, le club descend administrativement en National 3 D5. Il y reste un an avant de redescendre en N3.
