I would setup the custom page sizes as you explained but was never able to select it from the print window in any software's print window, the custom sizes were always grayed out but somehow it would switch to an "Other Size" selection and the dimensions would stick. However, even if I sent this to the printer it would always error out about paper size, setting tray 1 size to 'other' at the printer would error and ask for letter size paper, tell it was letter paper in tray on and it would just result in an area of 8.
