Went abt half a mile past elk mountain and could have gone further but ran out of time. Christine Millar. Well graded, just be careful of other drivers. We hiked only 2 miles in, and had stunning views of the Olympic range and some deep valleys below us. Caroline George. Started out with 5 people and I was the only one to get to the top. There's absolutely some scrambles, but they are manageable so long as you stay on trail. The fall colors are definitely here in the Valley. Beautiful trail but very steep. The best times to visit this trail are April through September. Catherine T. Going down the same way, however, is something I find most unpleasant and I rather hike many more miles for an easier way down. At first, the path was narrow, tilted and felt a bit perilous but my body adjusted over time. Most of the trail is identifiable, some down trees and over growth.
