There's a space dogfight, there's action, and it's a lot of fun. But it's the middle of the episode—titled "The Convert" and directed by Minari 's Lee Isaac Chung —that really blew us away; the action shifts away from Mando and company, and instead centers on a pair of characters we've seen before. There's Dr. Penn Pershing Omid Abtahi , who popped up periodically throughout the first two seasons of the show as some kind of vague Space Nazi scientist that Moff Gideon Giancarlo Esposito wants to experiment on poor little Grogu, and there's the previously unnamed Imperial communications officer played by Katy M. O'Brian, who we learn in this episode is named Elia Kane. And this middle portion of the episode introduces a story that is immensely interesting right off the bat. Pershing give a speech about The New Republic's Amnesty program; essentially the Star Wars version of Operation Paperclip , allowing former Imperial officers to contribute to a reformed society. It seems like Dr. Pershing genuinely wants to be better and make the galaxy a better place. But he also really wants to keep working on cloning—just not for Moff Gideon, the Emperor, or anyone like that. Elia appears to be part of the amnesty program as well, telling Dr. Pershing that she, too worked for Moff Gideon aboard his ship. She's basically the devil on Dr.

The expanded canon of Star Wars is so vast that characters like Boba Fett, who received just a handful of lines in the original trilogy, are now the subjects of their own TV shows. In this universe, no character is minor, which may explain why Elia Kane so effortlessly moved to the foreground during "Chapter 19'" of The Mandalorian. In the episode, we get reintroduced to Imperial officer Elia Kane, who has appeared on the show before. For much of the show's second season, her job was to relay information to Moff Gideon, and her official role was as a communications officer. In "The Convert," Elia is on Coruscant living in a camp designed to reintegrate former Imperial officers into the much more open and inclusive society that is the New Republic.
The travels of a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. The capture of the force-sensitive child, Grogu—who is under the protection of Din Djarin Pedro Pascal —is of the utmost importance to Gideon due to his potential role in the Imperial cloning project. Like any great Star Wars villain, she is motivated by fear: Kane is terrified of the possibility of the Jedi returning to the galaxy and is willing to torment Grogu and his protectors in order to dissuade them from going against the Imperial Remnant. Her complete disregard for the humanity of her opponents somehow makes her even more terrifying than any of the creatures and monsters that appear in The Mandalorian. Kane has been brainwashed to believe that a totalitarian regime is not only justified, but worth celebrating. Her deep-seated fanaticism—even when faced with a battle that she will likely lose—speaks to her unquenchable loyalty to the Imperial Remnant. After being accepted into a program that helps former Imperial officers re-introduce themselves into the New Republic and head in a more positive direction, Kane proves that her loyalties to Gideon and his jingoistic beliefs have not been eroded. Her manipulation of the former Imperial scientist, Dr. O'Brian's performance revitalized the show by providing a legitimate threat and adding a sense of danger. Kane's association with secret cloning operations and loyalty to the Imperial Remnant makes her a significant factor in the future of the Star Wars franchise.

And Who Wrote The Note? What Time is 'The Bachelor' on Tonight? The Mandalorian is a prime example of that. The entire series is built around all of the other characters, essentially. A nondescript Mandalorian, a tinier Yoda — and remember when their crew included an Ugnaught and not-IG?
