All of a sudden out of the blue, you glance down and notice that your coolant temperature needle is to the right of the 12 o'clock position, or horror of horrors the red light is on! Now that's dealt with, signal, pull to the side of the road and turn the car off.

The water pump is known to be a big problem with the e36 because BMW used a plastic impeller which lasts like 50k miles, but they do have a metal impeller version which should last a long time.

Found out that sure enough, the auxiliary electric fan was dead. When no more bubbles exit out of the bleed screw, tighten it to 8 Nm 71 in-lb. Now, run the engine until it reaches it's operating temperature. Not even if you just live 5 miles away. Good grief -- this week I found some grey hairs too. It well prevent a few but questions will always be asked. You'll need to log in to post. Might be a combination of problems. The temperature gauges in these cars have circuitry in that basically keeps the gauge from floating around, so long as the engine temp stays in a certain pre-determined range.
