As fans of the original Dying Light will remember all too well, volatiles are arguably Dying Light 2's toughest standard enemy type. After first encountering them in Markers of Plague , they'll emerge once you've reached level 3 of a chase or when you're exploring the deepest of dark zones , and shouldn't be fought head-on, especially if you're in the early stages of the game. Their immense power and speed mean they'll catch you in a straight chase and, depending on your level, can finish you off in just a few hits. Volatiles are at an extremely late stage of the infection, transforming from standard undead shamblers into nightmarish monsters fine-tuned to kill. If one were to chase a fleeing Volatile at sunrise, you can sometimes see them die from the sun before making it to a dark area. Mainly located in caves or dark train tunnels.

Be warned, they have a ranged attack in their arsenal too, with volatiles able to launch acidsimilar to spitters. Ranged is also a good means of attacking volatiles without having to fully engage, although you'll have to be fast, as volatiles will close the gap dying light volatile quickly.
