NO-Troubleshooting is complete. NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information. Is the result OK? Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM. Remove the rocker arm oil pressure switch A , and install the special tools as shown, then install the rocker arm oil pressure switch in the oil pressure gauge attachment B. Does the oil pressure increase to at least kPa 4. YES-Replace the rocker arm oil pressure switch, then go to step If it is OK, replace the rocker arm oil control valve, then go to step Is there continuity? Is DTC P indicated? YES-Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM, then go step 1. YES-Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.
Is DTC P indicated? Recommended Communities. I sprayed the sensor down again and reinstalled everything.

We recommend Torque Pro. How much each valve will be opened is determined by the camshaft and the profile of its lobes. So, when designing the engine, the manufacturers must choose between the lowdown torque or the power output at high engine speeds. This is at least so when the ratio between the camshafts and crankshaft is fixed. Engines with variable valve timing, though, combine the best of both worlds, so to say. They do this by incorporating a mechanism that advances or retards camshafts rotation depending on driving conditions. This, in effect, keeps valves opened as much as possible for most of the rev range. Also, be aware other carmakers might also be using this code, with different definitions between different makes. This guide applies primarily to Honda vehicles.

So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator. The diagnostic trouble code DTC is stored if there is an over-advanced camshaft phase compared with the directed value or if the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal.

I demonstrated this on both his car a brand new Hyundai Sonata 2. General Tech Help Good at troubleshooting? Has it had regular oil and filter changes? Is the result OK? After this time it happened again. It was not a jumped or stretched timing chain. Top Contributors this Month View All. We never drove it that way maybe the wife did it once in a while but only as a defense necessity Granddaughter of course drives more aggressive and I think it may have just hung the first time since it has not came back on it. After you figure this out you can replace whatever you feel necessary.
The diagnostic trouble code DTC P in Honda vehicles is an indication of an issue related to the timing control of the variable valve system. The VTC system plays a crucial role in determining the opening of the intake camshaft, effectively managing the amount of oil that flows into the camshaft.
It uses oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator so the valve timing is optimized, depending on driving conditions. Send a private message to 04AccordinIL. Is DTC P indicated? It's the youngest grandaughter's car now and she need it for school and she is not suppose to drive my cars due to insurance since she is no longer on a learners permit. Only reason I noticed it is there is some type of groan squeak somewhere. Going to look at the Civic one if I still have it. There are several videos out there of people pulling these components, cleaning them, etc. Has a funky flat 4 engine. Additionally, my Scangauge would not let me clear the error and it just kind of blank-screened at me. It was fine for a bit then code came back. Log in. Did notice the upper motor mount on the passenger side is down on bumper. Wish I was still using a timing light and dwell meter hanging on the wall
