I think we're looking at a copper stub out with a steel pipe fit inside. The steel pipe has been soldered to the copper pipe, and then cut very short. There is approximately inches of the steel pipe inside the copper pipe, but only a half inch of steel pipe coming out. The previous trap arm was connected using one of those rubber pipe couplings. Do I have any other options for reconnecting? The trap in my kitchen sink started leaking a few months ago. The steel pipe was rusting out.
