Observing your players eagerly discussing your clues and eventually cracking the code to a mystery is always a joy. Fortunately, there are many unique puzzles to include in your games, some easy, some more challenging. Here are a few of them. You can take the concept of each one and adapt it to best suit your campaign and players.

A pauper's crypt underneath the city streets where the bodies of the unwanted are dumped before they can be burned, where some terrible lurking evil now feeds. The dungeon is someone or something's home, it's lair, it's hide out and adventurers are normally trespassers. The dungeon is often a site where something has previously happened and adventurers have the task of working out what. A dungeon can be a frontier between this world and another. It can be a place where awful secrets are revealed. More than anything else though, a dungeon is the stage that you the GM will use to help the players act out a story, so it needs to be designed and populated with this in mind. It's not always necessary, but a new concept once in a while can not only spice things up, it can also make a region feel more alive or unique. Floor Puzzles do exactly what you would expect. You place this puzzle on the floor of a room in your dungeon. Following the rules of the puzzle, PCs must walk the correct pattern over the floor tiles to unlock a door, make a rope drop from the ceiling, and so on. You can use these as generic puzzles, but they also come with a lot of flavor involving four races: Orcs, elves, halflings, and dwarfs. Another highlight of this puzzle is that it comes with 5 completely optional card games. PCs can play a few quick hands and — without realizing it — learn the rules to the puzzle.
